For the 15th consecutive year, UCSF Medical Center has been ranked in the top 10 of the nation’s best hospitals according to U.S. News & World Report.

The 2016-2017 Best Hospitals survey named the UCSF Medical Center as the 7th best hospital in the United States. It is the only Northern California hospital on the list. The Medical Center is also the highest ranked hospital in the San Francisco-Oakland metro area under the Best Regional Hospital category. This distinguished honor recognizes the wide range of clinical services the Medical Center offers and its commitment to treating all types of patients, no matter how complicated or challenging the situation might be.

  • Cancer

To be ranked for 8 of the top 10 adult medical specialties is a huge accomplishment, especially considering that only 153 hospitals nationwide were ranked in at least one specialty. This is a testament to the commitment to excellence in patient care of all UCSF Medical Center employees.

Beyond the top 10 list, the Medical Center is also known for its important work in:

Benioff Children’s Hospitals

For more than a century, UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospitals have offered the highest quality medical care to children and their families throughout the Bay Area.

No matter how long or short, a stay in a children’s hospital can be scary and overwhelming for kids and their families. All caregivers and staff at Benioff Children’s Hospitals try to make the stay as comfortable and positive as possible by attending to the unique and specific needs of each child and their medical situation. Highly trained social workers with the hospital help families navigate this difficult time.

  • Urology

Additionally, the Children’s Hospitals specialize in:

  • Emergency care
  • Orthopedics — specifically for the spine, including deformities, degenerative disc disease, tumors, and fractures

  • Outreach — with clinics throughout the region
